Cisco Monitoring Using the Logs

Cisco log files are used to perform monitoring. Inspection of the log files as they are sent from the agent and comparison of the log files to known failure string will create alerts.

Setup Cisco SSH Access

Turn on SSH on the Cisco unit. SSH will be used by the agent to retrieve log files.

Update the Asset with the Authentication Credentials

Log into Engineering and go to the Cisco asset to be monitored

Field Value
MIBS User Name Exact User Name in Cisco
MIBS User Protocol NOAUTH or SSH or TELNET
MIBS User Passphrase Exact Password in Cisco

Test the Configuration

Log into the agent.

Type /opt/bin/download

Type /opt/bin/phonehome

This process will download the latest configuration from the hosting portal and gather the information from the unit and populate the asset in Engineering

Wait 30 minutes and examine the asset in Engineering

Cisco monitoring also has the capabilities to update Firmware version and Serial Numbers from the log files.

  • Fan < 1200 RPM
  • Temperature > 85.0
